It was a tough day of riding today.
The team rode 89 km from Mission to Hope.
Then, because we wanted to get a jump start on tomorrow, we continued another 35 kms to Manning Park. And all 35 of those kilometers were up. Straight UP!
The hill was so steep and punishing that Vern hit the emotional wall after 19 km's of 'up'. But with the help of his wife and the team, he pressed on another 16 km's of UP! It was relentless.
The highlight of the day was seeing the first black bear!
One last story....
Vern
Vern drank all his water and asked Dena to go get some. She drove to a little place called sunny side campground and asked a little old woman if she knew where she could get some water for some cyclists riding across Canada. She told Dena to come to her little house.... Disappeared and came back with a flat of water bottles (36).
And donated them to us FREE.
Wow... People want to help :) and it is quite humbling
Day 2 1/2 is in the books (89 + 35 km's)
Tomorrow we will finish the mountain (35 more up... And then do 65 down to Princeton)
P.S.... Rain makes me freezing cold and very shivery. I like hot chocolate :)
The kindness of strangers is an amazing thing.
